Review: Aperion Audio Bravus 10D Subwoofer

The Aperion Audio Bravus 10D is an attractive, potent little subwoofer at a reasonable price. It certainly doesn’t have the output and extension of its larger peers, but that’s a tradeoff one must live with if they want a small box to better blend into their room décor. Given the diminutive size of the 10D, it would be easy to place two of these in most family rooms without drawing much attention to them. There should be no excuses for NOT setting up dual subs…

We were pretty awed by JVC’s 4K projector the company showed off at CEDIA a few years ago, and JVC recently demo’d 3D projection using two such projectors. This week the manufacturer announced its latest high-performance 4K2K D-ILA projector, the DLA-SH7NLG, which like previous models can deliver ultra-high-resolution of about 10 megapixels (4096 x 2400, well beyond full HD 1080p of 1920 x 1080). The company says the projector’s wire-grid optical engine helps achieve 10,000:1 native contrast for true, deep black levels, and dual 330W…

Where’s the basement home theater room? What, no 100-inch screen and jazzy theater chairs? There’s a 60-incher in the playroom—but the three teenagers have to share the TV because none of their rooms have one? These suburban New York City homeowner’s aren’t technophobes or Luddites. They just wanted a way technology could improve their daily living, without taking away from the look of their home. The house doesn’t have a dedicated theater room, but it boasts several above-average-size displays, three rooms with full surround sound,…

If you’re tired of the Tiger Woods news, gossip, apologies, and TMZ-ness, you’re going to want to skip The Masters. Tiger is making his return to the PGA Tour on April 5-11 at the hallowed grounds of Augusta National. If you do watch The Masters, for the great golf, horrible commentating, and beautiful flora, you’ll have more Tiger coming at you than expected. Sony, Comcast, and The Masters will be teaming up for two hours 3D coverage per afternoon, focusing on the back nine holes.…

Jeff Click of Jeff Click Homes in Oklahoma City specializes in building mid-priced homes, but don’t think of him as your average homebuilder. For one thing, he embraces technology. His company even does the installation work on simple home theaters in some of his homes. So the logical next step for him was to add a modestly priced home theater to one of his model homes. “We’ve noticed increasing demand for rooms like this one in modestly priced homes. People are looking for theater rooms,…

Apparently 3D stands for 3 dips, because that’s what it looks like it’s going to take to get “Avatar” on 3D Blu-ray. According to the Los Angeles Times, “Avatar” will receive an initial bare-bones, movie-only release on DVD and Blu-ray on April 22. The Los Angeles Times also cites “Fox sources” who say previous reports of a 3D version being released in 2010 are incorrect. James Cameron, who postponed the making of “Avatar” in order for 3D technology to catch up, is waiting for the…
