Over the past few years the performance of plasma-display televisions has continually improved. The latest example of the technology's improving performance can be found in Hitachi's new 42-inch 42HDS52 and 55-inch 55HDS52 plasma displays. The plasmas incorporate the company's Virtual HD 1080p II video-processing technology, which is said to improve contrast, color and image sharpness. The plasmas also offer two HDMI inputs, two component inputs, a CableCARD slot for digital cable-ready connectivity, and a USB input to display digital photos from a camera. -- Robert Archer
