The Hide-and-Chic HCR Series Media Mirror from Media Decor

Media Mirror is a simple solution to many design problems and decisions. This "mirror" makes the room look larger, completely conceals the TV in the "off" position, and with the proper choice of the frame, will greatly enhance the room. This product uses a beam splitter or mirror of partial reflectance. A proportion of light is reflected from the beam splitter while the rest is transmitted through it unaffected -- it's nothing like a vanity or cosmetic mirror. And unlike typical 2-way mirrors or "half-silvered" mirrors, the glass is coated with a dielectric film, not a metallic film. Since metallic films absorb light, they are not well suited for video transmission. This dielectric coating is typically about five times as efficient as metallic coatings in its light transmission ability, making it much easier to view your TV screen through the mirror's glass. Although Media Mirror uses an advanced beam splitter system, because the mirror is still made of glass, lighting can be an issue. This product is recommended for bedrooms, guest rooms, family rooms -- any room that is relatively small with subdued lighting or heavy drapery. Open rooms with many windows or bright lights -- kitchens, bathrooms -- will not display optimal results if the TV is being used during the day.
